10/01/06 - David Wolfe & more raw food

Hello again, onto more adventures in raw food, and boy was this past week an adventure.

It first started off with a recipe from "Raw Food, Real World," by Sarma and Matthew, the two I spoke about in the last blog. This took a long time to prepare, so it is really something that we only do once in awhile.

Raw Tacos

Here is the whole spread laid out and ready for making, but I will break the pics down for you.

When you find you still have left over food you throw it in a pepper and decorate it.

Here are some other treats I made in the past.

Avocado, tomato, cucumber, with a nut pate.

Raw pizza anyone?

Ok, onto my David Wolfe event. Last night I went to see David Wolfe speak at The Plant in Dumbo, in Brooklyn, NY. The Plant has a few cafes called Blue Green throughout NY. The Plant is their headquarters where they have dinners on Friday nights, and also teach raw food preparation classes on Saturdays.

For those of you that aren't familiar with David Wolfe, he is the author of a few books that I own and really enjoy. He wrote "Sunfood Diet Success System," "Eating for Beauty," and "Naked Chocolate." His motto is "Have the Best Day Ever." I really enjoy him because he has high energy, and knows what he is talking about. He is one of the leading authorities on nutrition and the raw food movement. Both of his parents are doctors, but he chose to go another route.

Anyway, I wanted to see him speak for awhile, so I decided to go to this event. I planned on getting there an hour early, but with traffic and a couple wrong turns we arrived 30 mins late. It was sort of a big open room with people everywhere, maybe about 200 total. There were people walking around with raw appetizers, they were so tasty. Later they had raw desserts, so chocolaty and delicious. The really cool thing about the whole event was that everyone there was so full of love. I mean that place was tight, and when you bumped someone they were so apologetic, instead of rude, which is what we normally find in CT. People there all radiated health and happiness, as I am sure most were raw fooders.

One of the producers of Raw For 30 Days was there. They showed the trailer and answered any questions about the documentary anyone had, it was very informative. Then David Wolfe spoke. He was so high energy and pumped up, it was great. He was radiating a raw aura of healthy living that was so inspirational. He has been raw for 12 years and hasn't been sick once. He made a statement that really impressed me. He said that no matter what happened, he would not be sick for the rest of his life, and neither do we have to be. That is pretty cool if you think about. Anyway, I won't regurgitate his talk, but check him out if you get a chance, or at least get one of his books.

I got a chance to talk to him towards the end of the night. I told him I recently dropped over 80 lbs and thanked him for his excellent work. He said people are getting so sick and tired of being obese, and are ignoring diets advertised by the media and are looking for something new. He said he was at Detroit giving a talk awhile back and out of 400 people, 10 said they lost over 100lbs raw, that is pretty amazing. He also thanked me because he said he could feel my positive energy in the crowd and he appreciated it. I was pretty close to the front when he was talking and was constantly agreeing with him, smiling, and clapping so that was pretty cool that he was that aware to notice. He signed my book and also took a picture with me. Thanks David!

Now I just have to find out where he gets those awesome shirts from.

We wrapped up the weekend with a visit to the farmers market on Saturday checking out some produce and big pumpkins.

What a cutie.

In closing, have no fear, give love freely, and transform your life. Don't be afraid to turn your life from mundane to marvelous, from complacent to courageous, from stale to spectacular, and from a SAD diet (Standard American Diet) to a new RAW life!
