04/16/07 - Keep it Simple
My brother came over to watch a couple movies yesterday and have lunch with me. He brought his own lunch and I went to make mine. As I went to prepare, I realized that I was out of avocado and tomatoes. Nooooo! I usually always have both in my salad. But, it was nice to have a simple salad for a change.
My salad consisted of red leaf lettuce, alfalfa sprouts, mung sprouts, buckwheat sprouts, and celery. So basically all very water rich green vegetables without the heavy fats. Actually, I did include some sunflower seeds. I used a light flax seed oil and lemon juice dressing and was all set. It felt good not eating tons of avocado for once. I don't want to make it a habit though, I love my avocado. :)
My brother asked me, "so what are you going to have for dinner now." I said, "I don't know, maybe nothing." I don't think he understood me not eating dinner as he kept asking me. I usually don't miss a meal, and I did actually eat an orange and an apple, but really didn't feel I needed to have a big salad, like I usually do.
One thing I am finding is the concept of eating a "meal" is not as big a deal to me as it use to be. One day a meal could be an apple or two, the next day might be a salad, another day might be nothing. There are no rules! I have been so programmed to have a meal consisting of a main food (usually meat), a side dish (usually potato or rice), a dessert, and a drink. Now I try to listen to my body and see what its telling me I need. It's pretty cool actually, give it a try.
I was hanging out with a friend that ate very simple one day. It was lunch time and we were both hungry. I wanted to go to a restaurant but he convinced me to go to the grocery store. He picked up an apple and a banana for lunch. He grabbed the same for me. I remember looking at him like he was crazy. I said I couldn't just eat that, I ran through the store looking for a pre-made sandwich, or something I could order from the deli. Anything but an apple or a banana for lunch. Now that I look back I see that I was the crazy one...

That is the best advice I could ever hear or give someone.
Getting in touch with our body's messages is so fundamental to TRUE, longlasting, impermeable health...
Thanks for the reminder!!!
