05/09/2007 - Take A Hike
I have really started to develop an interest in hiking lately. I actually bought some camping gear and will be planning a weekend camp/hike shortly. I picked up a few books about thru-hiking last week. Thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail mean you start in Georgia and walk straight to Maine, or vice versa. It usually takes about 6 months and is really a journey of a lifetime. Very cool and definitely life changing. It takes a certain type of person to be able to do that as some hikers don’t see another person for 3+ weeks sometimes. Is it for me, I don’t know, we shall see. But so far, I am excited.
I have been feeling so energetic lately. Don’t get me wrong, I could always just enjoy sitting on the couch, but that is no fun, and the weather is too nice anyway. I don’t get as winded as I use to and I don’t sweat as much either, so why not take advantage of it. I wanted to get some exercise after work today so I did a 3 mile hike in Tarrywile Park, a local hiking area where I live. I could have stopped after the short 1 mile trail I did, but I barely felt like I did anything, so I continued. I did it solo too. Usually I wouldn’t do something like that unless I was with someone, but I am tired of putting my life on hold just because I can’t match up my schedule with someone else’s, so I did it myself. It was a good time, just being out in nature, enjoying the sun and the fresh air.
So don’t wait another moment, get outside and enjoy nature, enjoy life. We as a society have lost our appreciation for Mother Earth and put all of our stock in technology and modern science. That has the potential to be our downfall as a people, especially with the rise in global warming.
So drive less, walk more, and smile with positive thoughts and intentions in your heart.

YOU GO BOY! You're an encouragement to me to get out there more and enjoy God's beauty while getting in shape. Keep thinking BIGGER while getting smaller!! :)
Hi Philip, we are so happy you are pushing yourself out the door even after a full days work to go hiking and enjoying the outdoors. This has motivated us to get back to hiking also. We have been finding a lot of excuses not too, but you know what, we want to stay healthy and fit so we are following suit! We are starting off slow and will work our way up to a good hike of 2 plus hrs. Its fun, challenging and gives us energy! Thank you for the motivation to get back on the right track! We love you, Ma and Tim
