07/18/07 - Events Update
A friend teased me for not updating my site in such a long time, so here it goes. A lot has been going on in my life lately, a lot of big changes…
I left my job that I have worked at for 11 years on June 29th. I gave them 3.5 months notice and left on a good note. I just decided that I wanted to do something were I would be interacting with people, and serving in some manner. Also, I needed to take a few months off. :) No plans for the future have been drawn up yet, just going to trust in God and wing it.
I have been to some pretty fun events as well. On 6/14 I went to a raw potluck dinner at http://www.sticksandstonesfarm.com/ in Newtown. It is a working farm that specializes in stone statues and moss production. They have a potluck open to the public every Thursday, and this particular one our group joined and brought raw dishes. A fun time was had by all.
A few weeks later the farm also hosted a Drum Circle which I attended. That was a first for me and was really enjoyable. A ground of about 50 – 60 people were there all playing drums and different types of percussion instruments, all in a tribal community vibe. The man that ran the drum circle, and many other in the state is Randy Brody http://sounddirections.net/index.htm. There were also some dancers there that led us in the center of the circle in a bunch of different dances, yoga-type free flowing loving types of movement. It was incredible and was very liberating. There will be another drum circle on 7/28 and another potluck on 8/2 that I will also be attending.
On the 4th of July I attended the NY rawfood meetup in Central Park for a potluck picnic. For those of you that don’t know www.meetup.com, they help people find others who share their interest or cause, and form lasting, influential, local community groups that regularly meet face-to-face. The event was lots of fun, and I even met some friends I knew from last time, and we had dinner at a raw restaurant and caught part of the NYC fireworks. I will be attending another picnic there on 7/22.
So all in all this past month has been filled with a bunch of activities and meeting new people, which I love. My friend Alison from the NY meetup group came on a 6 mile hike with me and some friends of mine last Sunday. After the hike we made enough raw sushi for about 5 people, but of course 3 of us were there to devour it, in mere minutes no less. It was so tasty, next time I will take pictures.
Till then… stay raw!
