9/29/07 - Chocolate Party

I went to my friend Flans house last night for a Raw Chocolate party.  It was really quite amazing and the chocolate was out of this world.  There was about 15 of us, and we all sat on the floor in a circle.  Flan was at the head of the circle giving the demonstration on how to make your own, and also how to make a delicious chocolate sauce.  Then we all got a chance to get our hands dirty.  We had every type of yummy accessory that we could add to the chocolate.. from brazil nuts, cashews, nut mixes, coconut, cacao nibs, ginger, dried fruit, vanilla, mint, and almond extracts, and much more.

The event was such a intimate loving group, and I think we all go blissed out on chocolate.  I mean once we were all trying it, and tasting each others, the energy and smiles in the room substantially grew!  Cacao, what an amazing gift!  Thank you Flan.

Here's how to make it:

Making chocolate is pretty simple.  You warm up some water in a pot.  Then you put  cacao butter in a bowl and set the bowl on top of the pot containing the warm water.  (Hint... if you shred the cacao butter it will melt faster)  This will warm up the butter without over heating it or killing the living enzymes.  Next add cacao powder and agave as a sweeter.  You will need to experiment with the amounts as some like it sweeter and some like more chocolate.  Mix the chocolate until nice and smooth.  At this point you can add nuts, dried fruit, or whatever you like if desired, mix again, and then pour into a mold or tupperware.  Stick it the freezer for a 20 minutes and your all set.  Of course there are many variations to this, but this should be a good start for you.

Or you can be lazy and just buy some!  Check out David Wolfe's book Naked Chocolate, on all things chocolate, and great recipes too!  Enjoy.
