Help, Not Another Guru!

Teachers, Gurus, Healers... OH MY!

There are so many inspirational spiritual mothers and fathers out there, we truly are blessed to live in such a time as this.  Some of my favorites have always been Eckhart Tolle, Dr. Wayne Dyer, and of course Ester Abraham-Hicks.  I have friends send me video clips constantly about the latest messages they heard on YouTube, or anywhere else on the world wide web.

With technology the way it is these days we really do have a ridiculous abundance of every self-help tool know to man at this point.  Which, is a good thing.

So... where am I going with this?

Well, about a couple years ago I purposely decided to back away from the whole teacher thing a bit.  As much as I love information, inspiring videos, and the love that I see in those beautiful teachers eyes... I am finding myself in a new space now.

I have been keeping away from excess information that comes from any other source than within.  As good as all those teachings are, and I love them, so many times I see that people find themselves mainly relying on others, and never connect to the divine within.  This feels very dis-empowering for me, as if the answers weren't within me already!  Also by focusing on spiritual teachers too much many have found themselves putting people on pedestals, even if not on purpose.... and then when they don't meet our expectations everything comes crashing down.

Unfortunately this tends to happen a bit in the raw world, which is why I always take others people's nutritional advice with a grain of salt.  What works for me may or may not work for you.  That's why I am all about self exploration and intuitive eating, and really finding out who we are individually, and how our own bodies ticks.

Ok... don't get me wrong, I love to read, and I love spiritual quotes and passages that inspire me to think, feel, and love more.  But overall I am choosing to connect direct through love and awareness and every day life experiences.

It feels so satisfying to know that all the answers are within... and that we are limitless, and that we are love.  Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.

It breaks my heart sometimes when someone tries to explain what is or isn't possible for me to accomplish in my lifetime.  Not because I care about what they think about me, I know my full potential is as glorious as I create it... but because I know that they limit themselves in that way, and that they close themselves off to so many things by "arguing for their own limitations."

Non-Attachment

So how do I get in the flow to connect with diving myself?

Well, I have been really appreciating using the tools of non-attachment and awareness.  I know, I know, what the heck does that mean?

Whatever happens, whatever the result of any situation, I choose to remove the labels of "good" and "bad" from that situation and just see every interaction in my life as the most glorious opportunity for growth.  Yup, even the hard stuff.

What's the hard stuff?

Usually for most people its relationships, communication, and self-love.  So... what would that feel like if you partner never disappointed you, because you only saw the love inside them, were unattached from results or expectations, and because you know that you create and manifest everything in your world?

What would that feel like?  Like a weight off your shoulders maybe...  What if they gave YOU that gift of freedom too?

What if every family event you went to was always the "best ever?"  Nothing anyone said bothered you... not even when your Aunt Margaret asked you when your getting married for the 129th time!

How you ask?

Imagine walking into that event with the intention of having an amazing time, loving others, and just being.  Yup, just being.  No expectations, just love in your heart and the present moment on your mind.

I know, its sounds sort of impossible doesn't it.  I mean some of us have been reacting to the same pushed buttons for our entire lives.  But, much like meditation or anything else, it gets easier over time.  The best thing about it is it requires no will-power at all!  Yup, its just a decision to remove those "good" and "bad" labels and see life just a little differently, which brings us to awareness.

Awareness

Practicing being in the moment and being aware has been one of the greatest tools in my life, now more than ever.  This term can be applied in many different ways, but I will share with you my interactions with food in regards to awareness.  (relationships will be another post)

When most people eat a so called naughty food they usually feel some sort of guilt afterward.  Then they joke about it, mention it to friends, think about it, laugh about it, any then when they are home alone by themselves they feel like crap.

Nobody is joking about that ice cream sundae when their standing on the scale are they?

But what if you looked at it a little differently.  I mean lets get real here, you were going to eat it anyway, might as well enjoy it, love it, and love yourself while loving it!  I found that when I have the awareness of what I am eating (even if it is high in calories and not my best choice, its ok), it makes it so much easier to say to myself... "This is my choice right now.  I understand that it may be fatting, and that is alright.  It still is MY choice right now, and I love myself either way."

I find that through this practice of awareness, self acceptance, and love... in the end I actually eat that type of food less and less... because I am working on building up my self-love muscles, not my judgment and guilt reflexes.

It's just a shift in the way we view ourselves and the world around us.  No strain involved here.  You already have all the tools you need.  Just take a moment to sit still and be.

If you find it hard then start with thinking about all the things you are grateful for in your life.  That will get your attention focused in the right direction in creating more of those experiences, instead of focusing on "not getting it, or this isn't working."

And... that's what it feels like to be in the flow...
