04/16/07 - Keep it Simple
My brother came over to watch a couple movies yesterday and have lunch with me. He brought his own lunch and I went to make mine. As I went to prepare, I realized that I was out of avocado and tomatoes. Nooooo! I usually always have both in my salad. But, it was nice to have a simple salad for a change.
My salad consisted of red leaf lettuce, alfalfa sprouts, mung sprouts, buckwheat sprouts, and celery. So basically all very water rich green vegetables without the heavy fats. Actually, I did include some sunflower seeds. I used a light flax seed oil and lemon juice dressing and was all set. It felt good not eating tons of avocado for once. I don't want to make it a habit though, I love my avocado. :)
04/10/07 - Mandatory Almond Pasteurization
Could it be - now they are taking away my favorite nut too!
Starting in August or September of 2007, raw almonds available in the USA, Canada and Mexico, will no longer be "truly raw" due to a mandate passed by the USDA, FDA and the California Almond Board, announcing that all almonds including organic must be pasteurized. Information is available at the following link:
The problem is the law has been passed with little public input(if any) or notification whatsoever. In addition all pasteurized almonds available in the marketplace will still be labeled as raw almonds. Can this be considered fraudulence or an out right lie? Are you willing to give up your food freedom choices?
