11/27/07 - NYC Party Pics
Ok, ok, ok… you asked for the pictures from this weekend in NYC so here we go!
CT Raw Food Meetup Trip to NYC
Glen and I took the CT Raw Food Meetup group to NYC this past weekend for raw food fun and exercise. We took the train into Grand Central, and then walked down to Quintessence for lunch. Raw Chef Dan, owner and head chef, spoke to us about the menu and helped answer questions. From there we stopped to pick up snacks and talk to Greg from Live Live. Then we hustled over to Jubbs Longevity where Dr. Jubb was nice enough to share some wisdom with us. Finally we hiked up to Pure Food and Wine for desserts… definitely the best ever!
After the meetup group went home on the train, a group of my friends and I went over to our friend Tamara’s house to prepare for the VIP Raw Food Party later that night.
11/23/07 - Dare To Be Different
Well, here we are again, Black Friday. You won't catch me in the 5:00am line at Walmart, nor with ready fingers for the 3:00am online sale at Amazon.com. This is a day that I usually choose to stay in and reflect on what I am thankful for.
This years Thanksgiving was quite special. It is my second year being raw for the holidays and I'll tell you, it just gets easier and easier. The first year was pretty simple too, but I have to admit, the mashed potatoes still looked semi-appealing (old memories).
This year my friend Carolin and I made a bunch of raw dishes, and had a blast! The key for me... no recipes and no rushing! We booked ourselves three hours to prepare the food, and ended up only needing two. We made 5 dishes in total, with love as the main ingredient in each one of them.
I have no problem eating the food I enjoy in front of other people, nor them eating theirs in front of me. I found that once you break the mentality of having to conform to other people's expectations of you, especially regarding food, you are free to do what you want. So many people still let the pressures of family overwhelm them, and tend to cave in during the holidays… but it doesn’t have to be that way. Dare to be different! : )
11/20/07 - Inspirational Blogger Award
With thanksgiving coming up this week I have so much to be thankful for! A renewed health, body, mind, spirit… and now I have been chosen for the Inspirational Blogger Award!

“For those bloggers who inspire others through their words and actions. With a positive attitude, and an uplifting spirit these bloggers make the blogosphere a better place, and encourage others to do the same. This award is for bloggers who rise up to set an example but continue to reach out and support others.”
This award was bestowed upon me by Audry from Filling Up On Life. Audry is a 26 year old raw foodie from the state of Louisiana. She started her blog as a reminder that all she needed in life was within her, and that she was able to fulfill herself! She is truly a beautiful soul, and a wonderful blogger! So whether you’re a raw recipe junkie looking for great pictures and ideas, or just need a little love, check out Filling Up on Life!
11/19/07 - Pure Food and Chocolate Dancing
Pure Food and Wine
I finally went to the infamous Pure Food and Wine restaurant in NYC last night, owned by the illustrious and sexy Sarma Melngailis. I know that many of you have been dying to go so let me tell you ahead of time… the food was simply amazing! Dhru planned and hosted the event, and ordered almost every appetizer and dessert on the menu. We all rotated the dishes and took turns eating a little bit of everything… ohh so good!
My main meal was the Zucchini and Roma Tomato Lasagna, which has a sun-dried tomato sauce, pignoli ricotta, and basil-pistachio pesto sauce. I was so satisfied with this meal that if it was all I ate I would have been content. And who says you can’t get full on raw food? Here are the appetizers and desserts I tried…
11/16/07 - Freshtopia.net
I discovered a great website awhile back called Freshtopia.net, out of California. They are a hot spot for information about the environment, food, and sustainability. They run a great blog and produce wonderful videos! The neat thing about their company is that they are super interactive, taking ideas and suggestions for shows right from their viewers.
The crew at Freshtopia is top notch too! Tanja the host is witty, fresh and funky, and is interested in raw foods and sustainability, and guaranteed to make you smile. Oscar the director has been working in video and animation for 6 years, and is interested in everything from independent media to ethical business practices. Barb the production manager has been working on health, social, and environmental justice for 10 years and has been involved with everything from helping nonprofit organizations, teaching classes about composting, and is also a certified permaculturist.
