I spoke last night at my friend Glens cafe in Fairfield, CT called Catch A Healthy Habit. It is a small space, but quite beautifully laid out, with a great variety of raw snacks and more importantly, friendly smiles.

I decided to do a live Q & A session this time, where any question was open game. I was surprised to see cafe packed out as people had questions from everything from raw food, to weight loss, to dealing with family and them understanding your new lifestyle changes.

One of my friends Mark Sosnowski was there, who since the last lecture I gave at the cafe back in February, has lost 86 lbs and is feeling great. It was so wonderful to see the upbeat energy and interaction between everyone.

The press was there and wrote a nice article up on the event. Click here to read the article.

Enjoy,

I haven't rode a bike in 17 years. I've always enjoyed bike riding when in my teens, but after my weight got to 400 lbs, I never road again.

Today was different. I woke up, still half asleep, and was inspired to go for a ride. Camera in hand, I tested my skills around the driveway to freshen up a bit. Once I was in the flow I crossed the street and it was on! I was flying down roads, breathing in nature, seeing animals, and just enjoying the beauty all around me. I was in awe, and feeling so grateful too.

Thank you Universe for my second chance. I vow to remain like a child and devour every inch of experience that this lifetime has for me.

Avocado Kale Salad by Philip McCluskey

If you're new to eating raw then there's a good chance you've never eaten kale before. Kale is a form of cabbage, and has powerful antioxidant properties, and is considered an anti-inflammatory too. High in vitamin C, K, beta carotene, and calcium. Basically, it's one hardcore green. I used to be a spinach man, until I found out about kale. Now its my go-to green of choice.

In this video you will learn how to make a quick and easy kale salad in 5 minutes or less. Also, towards the end of the video you can find some simple tips on how to open an avocado, for the beginner.

Ingredients

1/2 head of kale

1 avocado

1 handful radishes, sliced

1 handful cucumbers, sliced

1 handful almonds, soaked and dehydrated (this step is optional)

1/2 lemon, squeezed for juice

Sea salt to taste

Nutritional Yeast (optional)

Directions

Hand massage kale and avocado salad (don't rush)

Add cucumbers, radishes, almonds

Add lemon juice, sea salt, other spices

Toss and enjoy!

Born a Catholic, then later on a born-again Christian for most of my entire life, the thought of getting a "psychic reading," or anything of the sort, was as taboo as it got. But, as I went through my weight loss transformation, many things were to change in my life, including my spiritual beliefs.

One day I requested a reading from a raw foodie named Zoe, not expecting too much, just a new experience. I remember the day I got that reading back, wow, my reality really got shook up there. Not only was it the most exact reading I could have ever received, but it was even written in a way that only I would write it, weird punctuations and all. From that day on I have enjoyed yearly readings, not to tell me where to go or what to do, but rather confirm what had already been stirring in my heart.

Arangetram is a graduation performance that is the part of the traditional format – the Margam (path). It reflects the different stages of the dancer’s consciousness. For performing this Arangetram the student must have at least 10 to 12 years of training. Arangetram was known as Gejjepooje once in the Old Mysore District (the State of Karnataka in South India) which means worshipping the jingles in Kannada. In Tamil this is known as Salangai Poojai where Salangai means the jingles and the poojai means prayers to God.

The accompaniment includes the singer, the Mridhanga Player, the Violin player and the Natvanga. Other instruments like veena, flute etc., which are optional. These accompaniments play a very important role. The performer wears a lot of jewelry, make-up and specially stitched dress. Jingles are a must. The performer must have a lot of stamina and concentration as he or she has to perform the Arangetram for about 3 hours.

I wanted to share an email with you that I received the other day. Think you got it hard trying to stay raw? Try Arctic Alaska! Thanks Kristin, you are amazing! - Philip

From Kristin:

I live in a very remote village in the wilderness of Arctic Alaska (Wiseman Village). Ten years ago, I went raw, but didn't stay with it. Last winter, while searching for health ideas on the internet, I started re-visiting everything "raw," as it just felt right to me, and I found your inspiring story and website. I don't have over 200 lbs to loose like you did, but I did have a recent 60 lb weight gain I wanted to gain control over, and as everyone who has been overweight knows, it isn't the number that matters, but the experience. So your website, your words, and your writings and the authentic and passionate way you share about your experiences really spoke to me.

All though, like you, I did want to loose weight, I wanted even more to find a healthy way to live. I wanted to tell you that you've truly inspired me to "have the best day ever every day," here in Arctic Alaska.

Kim Eng On Stillness

It was a fantastically warm and sunny day this past Tuesday. I decided to go for a walk in the park to get in some sun and movement, when I was unexpectedly joined by some friends...

As I was walking the path, nobody in sight, the first visitor that popped on my path was a turtle. I was delightfully surprised as it was one of the first I have seen this year. As I continued walking, literally within 5 paces, a giant frog was sitting there, staring right at me. How cool I thought? I am not a swamp hopper so I usually don't see the big boys like this one. Good thing I had my iPhone on me to snap some shots.

Then finally what really had me laughing was as I continued on again, literally within another 5 paces, a beautiful long snake was staring right at me. We had our moment of eye contact, then he slowly slithered away.

I love seeing random animals as they are powerful signs for me. Whenever I walk into the woods for a hike I always mentally affirm, or sometimes even say out loud, that I am friendly and open to being visited by animals during my hike. I invite them in. That's when the signs start, when I am paying attention.

Signs... they are all around us. But what do they mean?
